Senior Ariel Stone is the perfect college applicant: first chair violin, dedicated community volunteer, and expected valedictorian. He works hard – really hard – to make his life look effortless. A failed Calculus quiz is not part of that plan. Not when he’s number one. Not when his peers can smell weakness like a freshman’s body spray.

Figuring a few all-nighters will preserve his class rank, Ariel throws himself into studying. His friends will understand if he skips a few plans, and he can sleep when he graduates. Except Ariel’s grade continues to slide. Reluctantly, he gets a tutor. Amir and Ariel have never gotten along, but que es escoliosis dorsal Amir excels in Calculus, and Ariel is out of options.

This was such a fantastic, light contemporary! After reading mostly fantasy, it’s sometimes a relief to read a book about daily life. I was torn though. I really identified by how anxious and worried Ariel is all the time. He has a very difficult time turning off his brain and relaxing. However, I wasn’t as driven in high school. I was content to coast and not work as hard as I should have. Reading about how much Ariel wanted to be the best made me regret being satisfied with mediocre.

Amir was the perfect foil to Ariel. He knew what he wanted where Ariel was still living under everyone else’s expectations. Amir had a creative outlet that he did for the joy of it, while Ariel struggled to remember why he started playing the violin in the first place. I’m usually a mess while my husband is the calm, collected one. They made sense to me.
